For the past few months, I’ve had a habit tracker for “writing.” The purpose was to make it part of my routine.
The problem was that my filthy monkey brain just started checking it off based on the writing I’d do for work.
Okay, even that was a bit of slight of hand, I’d count proposals or client copy too.
“Oh, look, you’re exercising that writing muscle on a website estimate.”
The letter of the assignment, but not the spirit. At all. So, for March, I’ve changed that to “Publish.” Because that’s the thing I need to work on: Mashing that publish button so all both people who are paying attention get a thing.
I’m sorry.
Here are some things I found interesting these last couple of weeks.
I can’t wait to hear what the world’s largest-brained animals think of us.
I’m going to ponder these eight attributes of the short story from Joy Williams. But it’s also reminded me to re-read The Elements of Style and to break open the copy of Elmore Leonard’s 10 Rules of Writing.
And finally, I’ll be curled up in a ball on the floor between now and November watching this.
